Let’s dive right in:
There are nets of various sizes on the market. But which one is the best badminton net size?
While you can adjust the sizes to your unique situation, depending on height of the players – or space available – there are specific height and width regulations set forth by the Badminton World Federation (BWF):
According to BWF regulations, the net’s height should be 5 feet 1 inch (1.55 meters) at the edges and 5 feet (1.524 meters) at the center.
The good thing is that the height is pretty much adjustable on all nets, so this is something you don’t have to worry about when buying a net.
The width of a standard badminton net is 20 feet (6.1 meters), which is the entire width of a doubles court.
For singles, the court is smaller, but the width of the badminton net stays the same at 20 feet (6.1 meters).
Another great thing here is that most badminton nets that you purchase online will be the perfect length – and if not, you can tie the extras to make it shorter to match specifications.
Whether you’re looking for a new net to play in your backyard, or you’re managing or opening a badminton gym, there’s a few different qualities that you should consider for your new badminton net.
The most important thing to consider is durability. If this is an outdoor net, we should consider if the materials can withstand excessive sunlight, rain, and wind. If this is an indoor net, we should consider how long this can be used with more shuttles hitting the net, players potentially bending or moving the nets, and more since this will be a bigger investment.
The stability of the poles that the net attaches to is of the utmost importance. If the net is moving around as we play, we’re not really playing the game of badminton! We need solid poles that don’t move around and stay in one place, so that the full net is stable as well.
Another factor to consider is the quality to price ratio. Some nets might be too out of budget (tournament quality nets) and are something you might not need at the moment. Others may be cheaper and a perfect fit for people just starting out and looking to get more invested in badminton. Generally, stick to popular name brand nets like Yonex that have established quality and relatively decent prices.
For an outdoor net, portability is definitely important since we will be bringing this out and storing it whenever needed. For indoor nets that stay up year round, this is less important.
So, what is the absolute best indoor badminton net to buy?
It’s this one:
The Yonex Tournament Badminton Net is the gold standard for all badminton players, and is used by players in countries around the world. High quality, durable, and portable – guaranteed to last you a long time. Note – most indoor nets do not come with poles, so these will need to be bought separately.
But… what if you’re looking to play outdoors?
I got you covered. Go for this one:
The Boulder Badminton Portable Net is a very commonly used outdoor net for casual players, that can also be adjusted and doubled as a pickleball net. This is extremely easy to set up, move around the backyard, and also lasts a long time. Get this if you’d like a net that is very easy to set up and start playing badminton!
