This is a complete list of the best places to play badminton in the world.
How did we pick these locations?
Start with infrastructure. All the arenas you see below have excellent flooring, are adequately lit, and are regularly cleaned. This enables you to have a better game performance while also reducing the risk of injuries.
Ease of access is another factor that distinguishes these arenas from their counterparts elsewhere. As a quick Google search will help you verify, all these places are located in or close to their respective city centers. You won’t have to change trains or buses just to get there.
What’s more, you don’t have to worry about food spots after the game. Their central locations mean there will always be more than a few eateries around these arenas. All in all, if you’re looking for places where you can have quality time playing badminton, this article has you sorted.
Riverside Badminton & Tennis Club (Saskatoon, Canada)
The Riverside Badminton & Tennis Club is located in one of the oldest neighborhoods of Saskatoon, Canada. A visit to the area would thus give you a taste of Canada’s history, but it will only be once you are inside the club’s premises that you’ll thank yourself for making the trip.
Six freshly refinished indoor badminton courts, beautiful locker rooms, and a shop for all your racquet sport needs. The Riverside Badminton & Tennis Club has everything a badminton enthusiast could dream of. It also has a lounge where you can relax after a grueling session on the court.
Suntec Convention Center (Singapore)
The Suntec Convention Center is located in the heart of Singapore. More importantly, at least for badminton aficionados, it houses one of the largest spaces for this game in the country. This makes it a boon for anyone frustrated by the shortage of badminton courts in the country.
On the sixth floor of the Convention Center, in adjacent halls 601 and 602, are 20 brand new, fully air-conditioned courts. These courts have new floor mats in place to help you move around with ease. You’ll also be supplied with AERO shuttlecocks if you’re willing to pay a small fee.
Dubai Sports World (Sheik Zayed Road, Dubai)
The Dubai Sports World is a dream come true for every badminton enthusiast. It houses 18 badminton courts at the last count, with each of the courts funded by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and having professional rubber mats supplied by Yonex.
Provided you can arrive at the facility during off-peak hours, you can take advantage of the limited number of shuttlecocks and badminton rackets on offer. Additionally, if you are self-driving to the venue, a 1,000-space parking lot means you can easily find a space to park your drive.
Singapore Expo (Singapore)
With 20 indoor badminton courts, the Singapore Expo, alongside Suntec Convention Center, boasts one of the largest badminton halls nationwide. Like their counterparts at the Convention Center, all the halls are air-conditioned and regularly furnished with rubber mats.
However, while the Convention Center is located right in the city’s heart, the Expo is just a few miles off the city center. This is the only reason why the former features higher on our list – its central location makes it much easier to access for anyone living in or visiting the city.
Dwarka Shuttlers (New Delhi, India)
The Dwarka Shuttlers is one of the most inexpensive places to play badminton worldwide. Yet don’t let its meager hourly fee distract you from the fact that this place has 6 synthetic courts with state-of-the-art facilities, a gym where you can warm up before the game, and trainers for badminton coaching sessions.
However, there are a few places where Dwarka Shuttlers cut costs. Unlike the arenas mentioned above, this place doesn’t provide shuttlecocks, rackets, and shoes for the players. So if you fancy burning a few hundred calories playing your favorite game, make sure to bring your own gear.
Honda Center (California, US)
Formerly known as the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim, Honda Center houses one of the oldest badminton courts in the US. It was built in 1993 at an eye-watering cost of $123 million. Over the years, Honda Center has hosted multiple concepts, WWE events, and the 1999 Men’s Ice Hockey Championship.
Honda Center also hosted the 2005 IBF World Championships for badminton in 2005. At the time of writing, it has half a dozen badminton courts with hardwood floors, synthetic matting, and air-conditioned halls to attract badminton aficionados from around the world.
Siri Fort Sports Complex (New Delhi, India)
Siri Fort Sports Complex is one of the few facilities that offer badminton players the chance to play their favorite game in the heart of South Delhi. It spans several thousand acres and is supplemented by lush green lawns, deco turfs for tennis players, and a yoga center.
The Complex was recently renovated with the addition of an aquatic pool. A mini-golf course, playing facilities for skating, shooting, taekwondo, and separate areas for western dance, belle, and jazz have also been recently added to help this complex offer something to everyone.
Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena (Glasgow, UK)
Kelvin Hall Sports Arena showcases the possibilities when an exhibition site is converted into a sports arena. It encompasses an eight-court multipurpose sports hall in the middle of Glasgow. It charges a meager £4.00 per session if you book your place using the Glasgow Club app in advance.
You could guess the magnificence of this arena from the fact that the building that houses the sports arena recently received a ‘five-star’ rating from Scotland’s national tourism body. And its appeal could increase even further given that it’s currently undergoing a multi-million-pound refurbishment.
